A regenerative community

In Hawaii an Ahupua’a was a division of land often from mountain top to the beach. Within this ahupua’a a regenerative community was formed. The land provided everything the community needed from timber to clothes. I wanted to share a sustainable garden system often used in these regenerative systems. The lo’i system diverts water from a river and runs the water thru terraces to feed and water plants. The water is then returned to the river to continue down the system. This picture is of a taro bed lo’i and requires very little maintenance and no electricity or chemical inputs. These small decentralized communities produced no waste and were truly regenerative. A true inspirational design
